About Used Cooking Oil

What is UCO (Used Cooking Oil) ?

  • Used cooking oil is defined as a residue or waste stream collected from restaurants or related commercial food processors
  • UCO after cooking is still a usable raw material
  • The viscosity of the oil increases, its colour will grow darker, and rancidity occurs
  • One of the cost-effective solution for recycling fuel source, saving both Earth and its people

Reusing UCO can detrimental health

  • Contains high toxicity of these degradation products
  • Leads to serious health effects (protein malfunction & muscle control problems)
  • Hugely increases blood pressure
  • Leads to a higher occurrence of cancer

The advantages in recycling UCO

  • Can be used to produce biofuel – green energy
  • The renewable energy produced by UCO can substitute traditional fossil fuel (e.g. petroleum, diesel etc.) to be the fuel of transportation vehicles, like cars, airplanes and ships.
  • Biofuels produce less greenhouse gases overall than fossil fuels when they are burned, which is cleaner and safer, can help to reduce pollution and improve greenhouse effects.
